Political Turmoil Erupts as the Rivers State Assembly Building Goes Up in Flames

In a shocking incident that unfolded on Sunday night, the Rivers State House of Assembly was engulfed in flames, suspected to be the work of political agitators. The fire, which broke out around 9:45 p.m., created an atmosphere of tension within the assembly complex, which is also home to the State Police Command.

This startling event occurred amidst reports of an alleged plot by certain lawmakers to impeach the House Leader, Hon. Edison Ehie, and the incumbent Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara. Insider sources revealed that the legislature had planned to carry out the impeachment during its scheduled session on Monday.

In response to these unfolding events, a group of agitated youths stormed the assembly complex, setting it ablaze. A senior police officer confirmed the incident and commended the collaborative efforts of the police and state fire service teams in swiftly extinguishing the fire.

Following the incident, security forces have tightened their grip on the assembly complex premises. More than 17 security trucks and four armored personnel carriers have been deployed, with over 50 Federal Security personnel stationed at the site.

While the motives behind this act of arson remain unclear, speculations are rife about a potential rift between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike. Rumors suggest a plot to impeach the governor, sparking protests among some youths who are vehemently opposed to such a move. The situation continues to unfold, leaving the political landscape in Rivers State in a state of uncertainty and apprehension.
