Human rights lawyer and activist Inibehe Effiong has once again taken a swipe at Nigeria’s ruling class, describing the country’s political leadership as a “gang of rogue and incompetent politicians” who continue to get away with heinous acts while citizens remain silent or complicit.
In a post shared on his official X handle on Thursday, Effiong decried the apathy of the public and the impunity of the political elite. “The things we endure and tolerate in this country are just baffling. Our rogue and incompetent politicians are getting away with murder daily,” he wrote.
His post comes amid rising cases of insecurity, corruption, and worsening living conditions under Tinubu’s administration, with many citizens increasingly frustrated by what they see as failed leadership and lack of accountability.
The statement quickly sparked reactions from Nigerians who echoed Effiong’s concerns, pointing out how the electorate often defends the very leaders who oppress them.
@jah_elan wrote, “The worst part is that we give excuses for them, defend the murderers and then elect them again.”
@torti_nneka commented, “When we are ready, we will choose sanity and cleanse the system.”
“It’s so sad oo,” said @KennethOluyori, reflecting the mood of hopelessness among many young citizens.
Another user, @Knot73211261, urged unity in the face of political decay, saying, “The only solution is unity on all fronts against the enemies, rogue politicians in Nigerian politics.”
Effiong’s remarks add to a growing chorus of voices demanding urgent reforms and justice in a system many see as deliberately structured to protect the powerful and punish the weak.
