Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has called on the South East Development Commission (SEDC) to prioritise electricity supply in the region, stating that power is essential for economic growth and industrialisation.
Otti made the appeal on Thursday while receiving a delegation from the commission. He stressed that no manufacturing or industrial sector can thrive without adequate electricity, urging the SEDC to focus on power investment.
Otti stated, “You are the regional development body representing all of us. A major area that requires critical attention is power—electricity.”

The governor also disclosed that the Abia State Government is in discussions with Interstate Electrics Limited to acquire their equity in the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC).
He explained that this move would enable the state to extend electricity to areas not covered by Geometric Power.
Otti commended President Bola Tinubu for approving the establishment of the SEDC, describing it as a significant step towards creating a favourable environment for businesses in the South East.
