Managing Director of the Port Harcourt refinery rehabilitation, Ibrahim Onoja has declared that over 75% of the project is now complete.
Onoja stated, “Over 75% of this task has been completed and accelerated as workers run day and night shifts.”
This assertion was substantiated by a comprehensive report from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), outlining the substantial progress achieved.
The project, initiated in April 2021, involves a workforce of 3000 diligently working round the clock, accumulating 8.3 million man-hours with zero lost time to injuries.
Onoja emphasized the extensive upgrades, revealing that the company, established in 1965, has witnessed significant improvements in instrumentation, control units, and rotating equipment such as pumps and compressors.

Addressing the crucial question of feasibility, Onoja confidently affirmed, “The Port Harcourt refinery will be ready by the deadline.”
Anticipated to commence operations this month, the refinery aims to produce an array of petroleum products, including petrol, liquefied petroleum gas, kerosene, low and high-pour fuel oil, and diesel.
Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer at NNPCL, echoed this commitment, declaring that the refinery is set to kick off operations by the end of December 2023.
