Power Minister Instructs Nigerians to Halt Purchase of Transformers, Poles, Puts DisCos on Notice

In a recent visit to Oyo State, Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, called on Nigerians to refrain from buying electricity infrastructure such as transformers and poles.

Adelabu emphasised that it is the responsibility of Distribution Companies (DisCos) to provide essential infrastructure for improved service delivery, including cables, poles, and transformers.

During his working visit to the state, Minister Adelabu conducted an inspection of power infrastructures and presided over the commissioning of a sub-station.

He expressed disapproval of communities being compelled to purchase these infrastructures, only for DisCos to take control and continue charging customers for services, citing Bola Tinubu’s stance on the matter.

He stated, “It is the responsibility of the distribution companies to provide transformers, cables and poles to communities so that power supply can improve. A situation where communities buy transformers, cables and poles must stop.”

Adelabu urged citizens to report any suspicious activities or movements around power facilities to the appropriate security agencies.

Additionally, he stressed that achieving a consistent and stable power grid is a top priority for the present administration, urging Nigerians not to accept inadequate power supply.

“There must be improvement in power supply. That is what the government planned to do. People should not pay for darkness. When people have a 24-hour power supply, they can pay double for electricity because you have saved them the money to power generators,” Adelabu added.
