Amid Hardship Under Tinubu, Pregnant Woman Dies in Lagos After Hospital Denies Treatment Over N500,000 Deposit

As the economy bites harder under the Bola Tinubu administration, a pregnant woman in labor, identified as Kemi, has died after allegedly being denied medical treatment at a private hospital in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State, due to her inability to pay a N500,000 deposit.

The tragic incident, which has sparked outrage and is currently trending on social media platform X Nigeria, was first revealed by her husband, Akinbobola Folajimi, on Instagram.

A distressing video circulating on X, shared by Folajimi showed his wife, visibly weak inside a car, as he desperately tried to keep her conscious. In the footage, he repeatedly called her name, pleading with her to stay strong for their children.

“My goodness, Kemi, look at me. Stay strong, look at me. Think about your kids, please. You need to be very strong for me,” he cried.

According to Folajimi, the private hospital refused to provide emergency care and instead referred them to a general hospital in Epe, a significant distance away from their location in Lakowe.

“The doctor told me to deposit N500,000, and I begged him to start treatment while I arranged for the money, but they drove us out like they didn’t care,” he said.
