In a shocking turn of events, a pregnant woman has been discovered to have fabricated her own kidnapping, reportedly in collaboration with her boyfriend, to extort money from her husband.
The FCT Police Command has taken the pregnant woman into custody for orchestrating her own kidnapping, a scheme that involved her husband paying a hefty ransom of N2 million for her purported release.
Police investigation also revealed that the woman had colluded with her boyfriend to carry out the elaborate hoax. It was discovered that she had handed over N800,000 to her accomplice as his share of the ransom, while retaining N1.2 million for herself.

During a briefing, FCT Police Commissioner, Benneth Igweh, shed light on the details of the case. He disclosed that following the arrest, a sum of N793,500 in cash was recovered from the perpetrators.
This revelation has sparked widespread outrage and disbelief, highlighting the lengths some individuals are willing to go to for personal gain. The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of thorough investigation and vigilance in combating such fraudulent activities.
He said: “On 11 March 2024 at about 7.40 p.m., one Chiedozie Ubah of Saburi II, Dei-dei, Abuja, reported at Gwagwa division that his pregnant wife Rosemary Ubah, left home to the hospital on the same date for a scan but did not return home.
“He later received a call through his wife’s phone number telling him that his wife had been kidnapped. And a demand for two million naira ransom before her release made.
“He transferred the sum into his wife’s account as instructed by the kidnapper.
“He later brought his wife to the station after her release.
“During interrogation, the wife freely confessed to have conspired with one man named Walter Ezeala, living in the same street with them at Saburi, to extort money from her husband.
“The said Walter was arrested and he confessed that his own share was N800,000. And the lady took N1,200,000.
“The N793,500 cash, two ATM cards and two android phones were recovered from them. Suspects will be charged to court soon.”
