Present 2025 Budget Proposal to N’Assembly Without Further Delay, Reps Tell Tinubu

The House of Representatives has asked Bola Tinubu to present the 2025 budget proposal to the national assembly ‘without further delay’.

The lower legislative chamber passed the resolution during plenary session on Wednesday following the adoption of a motion sponsored by Clement Jimbo from Akwa Ibom state.

Moving the motion, Jimbo said the president must comply with section 11(1b) of the Fiscal Responsibility Act 2027.

The aforementioned section states that the “Federal Government after consultation with the States shall: thereafter, not later than four months before the commencement of the next financial year, cause to be prepared a Medium-Term Expenditure Framework for the next three financial years”.

MTEF outlines projected revenue, expenditure, and budgetary policies over a medium term for a period of three years.

Tinubu is yet to transmit the MTEF to the national assembly ahead of the presentation of the 2025 budget proposal.

The lawmaker said the national assembly has the constitutional power to investigate the spending of funds appropriated by the parliament.

Jimbo accused Tinubu of not complying with section 11(1)(b) of the law, which outlines the procedures and timelines for budget consideration and passage.

The motion was adopted when put to a voice vote by Tajudeen Abbas, speaker of the house.

The parliament also mandated the committees on national planning and economic development, appropriation and finance to ensure compliance within two weeks.
