President Joe Biden is set to visit Israel on Wednesday. The visit comes at a time when the region is grappling with the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas.
The White House has stated that the purpose of the President’s visit is to “demonstrate his steadfast support for Israel in the face of Hamas’s brutal terrorist attack”. Following his visit to Israel, President Biden will be traveling to Jordan.
The announcement of the trip was made by Secretary of State Antony Blinken, who highlighted that Mr. Biden’s visit comes at “a critical moment for Israel, for the region, and for the world”.
Washington has already sent two aircraft carrier strike groups to the eastern Mediterranean “to deter hostile actions against Israel”.
After Israel, Biden will travel to Jordan, where he will meet Jordanian King Abdullah II, Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas, and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
