China’s President Xi Jinping has made a significant diplomatic move by expressing his concern about the Israel-Hamas conflict and calling for an immediate cease-fire.
This is the first time that President Xi has spoken publicly since the conflict began in early October.
In a meeting with Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly in Beijing, President Xi stated that China is willing to work with Egypt and other Arab countries to hasten the implementation of a comprehensive, just, and long-lasting solution to the Palestinian issue.
President Xi emphasized that the “crucial path forward” to ending the Israel-Hamas conflict is the creation of an independent Palestine via a two-state solution.
He stressed that enforcing a ceasefire is the first priority in order to keep the conflict from getting out of hand and perhaps resulting in a serious humanitarian crisis.
In addition to praising Egypt for its “significant role” in lowering tensions, the Chinese leader said he supported Egypt’s efforts to make it easier for supplies to reach Gaza.
The crisis has highlighted the long-standing differences between world powers.
It was set off by a concerted terror attack on Israel on October 7th, which was carried out by Hamas and left almost 1,400 people dead.
