Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Kingsley Moghalu, has emphasized that the only way to effectively fight terrorism is through prevention and defeat, as terrorists have little capacity for repentance.
In a post on his X handle on Monday, Moghalu stated that superior intelligence and the use of lethal force are essential to combat terrorism.
He argued that “the mind of the terrorist has little room or possibility for reason or genuine repentance.”
His statement comes amid Israeli airstrikes on key militant leaders of Hezbollah and Hamas, as concerns rise over the possibility of major powers like Iran and the United States becoming involved in the conflict.
Moghalu stated, “There is no other way to fight terrorism than to prevent it and to defeat it. The mind of the terrorist has little room or possibility for reason or genuine repentance. It cannot be placated. Superior intelligence and lethal force against terrorism is essential. Sad but true.
“9/11 and Al Qaida. The Middle East. In the latter, millions of innocent civilians are sadly often victims of the consequences of the wickedness of terrorists. Brainwashed by the latter, civilian populations often see them as “freedom fighters” for them than the twisted terrorists they are. Meanwhile, these terrorists use civilian populations as human shields to continue plotting terror. This is truly the worst wickedness. And so public opinion is often manipulated by terrorists in this manner.
“Countries that are the victims of terrorist attacks have an inalienable right to survival and self-defence. Regarding Gaza, however, the ultimate solution is a Palestinian State. But crushing the military ability of Hamas to inflict terror on Israel is essential.
“That’s the only real guarantee of Israel’s security in the longer term. Because Hamas is not interested in peace either. Their stated objective in their Charter is that Israel has no right to exist. If you were Israel, with the military superiority you have over Hamas and Hezbollah, would you sit around pleading for “peace” while your enemies plot your destruction, attack and slaughter your citizens? If you were the United States, would you have done the same with Al Qaida after 9/11? Some things are logical, but passions and sentiments interfere,” he added.
