A Catholic priest known on X as Fr. James has voiced his support for Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi’s recent comments advocating for increased productivity in Nigeria.
Peter Obi, in a recent interview on The Honest Bunch podcast, emphasised the need for structural changes in both politics and religious practices, suggesting that some church night vigils could instead be utilized as night shifts to enhance the country’s economic output.
He stated, “We are going to turn night vigils into night shifts so that people can be productive. I go to church and believe in God but we can not have people, Monday to Friday being in church, morning and Night.
“NO. If I go from here now to my house, the only sign board you see is sign board of church. And if you go to the east, it is burial. That’s not a country. If you go to any other country, you see products,” Obi added.
Reacting to Obi’s remarks, Fr. James posted on X, stating, “Always a delight to watch @PeterObi speak. He gives hope!
“I believe him.
“Turn the night vigil to night shifts !
“After all what many go to do at night vigils is to pray for the fruits of night shifts. Don’t get it wrong, people will still go to Church but it’ll now be with more joy in their faces for the ground is now green.
“May God answer this prayer,” the clergyman added.
