Residents of Ruga, a community situated along Airport Road in Abuja, staged a protest on Friday in response to the demolition of their homes, an action ordered by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
According to reports, Wike had previously directed the task force, “Operation Sweep,” to dismantle structures in Ruga and other areas in the capital as part of a broader effort to address perceived nuisances and reduce crime.
Leading the protest, prominent lawyer and activist Deji Adeyanju, alongside Vincent Martins Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMark, condemned the demolitions as malicious.
Adeyanju expressed deep concern over the operation, noting that many homes were burned, resulting in property losses worth millions of naira.
He appealed to President Bola Tinubu to recognize the hardship of those displaced, particularly individuals who had already fled from violence and insecurity in Borno and other northern states.

Adeyanju said: “There is no justification for this demolition. We are using this medium to appeal to the president to consider the plight of the displaced residents, who are barely surviving.
“Most of the residents here were forced out of their homes in Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe due to insecurity.
