EndBadGovernance Protest: Police Use Tear Gas on Journalists, Protesters at Berger Roundabout in Abuja

Police have fired tear gas canisters at protesters gathering at the Berger Roundabout in Abuja.

Journalists covering the protest were also targeted, with tear gas being used against them at a separate location where they had assembled.

The EndBadGovernance protesters in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja moved their demonstration from the Moshood Abiola Stadium to the prominent Berger Roundabout.

On Wednesday, an FCT High Court had ordered the protesters to confine their demonstrations to the stadium.

Although the protesters complied by initially gathering at the stadium on Thursday, they resisted attempts by security operatives to confine them to the stadium.

Following reports of harassment of other protesters at Eagles Square by security operatives, the protesters left the stadium and marched in large numbers.

Upon arriving at Berger Roundabout, the police guarding the area repeatedly used tear gas on them.

Punch correspondent, who visited the stadium at 7 a.m. on Friday, found no protesters there but later learned that the location had been changed.
