In a display of frustration, Protesters of Kano and Niger states have taken to the streets to voice their grievances against the soaring cost of essential goods and services, sparking urgent calls for government intervention.
In Kano, demonstrators flooded the streets of Kurna, Rigiyar Lemu, and Bachirawa areas along the bustling Katsina Road, bemoaning the relentless economic strain. Usman Bello, speaking on behalf of the protesters, encapsulated the widespread sentiment, declaring, “The harsh economic situation has caused untold hardship to the masses in the state.”
With chants echoing concerns over the astronomical rise in prices, particularly of staple foods, such as rice and sugar, the protesters emphasized their urgent need for relief. Bello starkly highlighted the severity of the situation, stating, “People cannot eat three square meals; even the one square meal is now becoming difficult.”
Similarly, in Niger State, frustration reached a boiling point as both women and youths converged on the streets of Minna to denounce what they termed “biting hardship.” Blocking the Minna-Bida Road at Kpakungu Roundabout, they vented their grievances against the escalating cost of living under the current administration.
