Tech giant and industry leader in wireless technology, Qualcomm, has unveiled its most potent and recent PC processor, the Snapdragon X Elite.
With its cutting-edge AI characteristics, this new chip, which is intended for laptops running Microsoft Windows, is poised to completely transform the PC market.
Next year, laptops with the Snapdragon X Elite will be available to purchase.
Its design has been improved to better handle activities involving artificial intelligence, such as creating text, creating graphics, and summarizing emails.
Artificial intelligence models with 13 billion parameters, a stand-in for text or image generation systems, may be handled by the processor.
According to Qualcomm, there are certain tasks where the Snapdragon X Elite outperforms Apple’s CPUs designed for Mac computers.
Also, it uses less energy than PC CPUs made by Apple and Intel.
A group of former Apple engineers created the chip’s entirely unique computational cores, which Qualcomm paid $1.4 billion to purchase in 2021.
The news was made the day after Reuters revealed that Advanced Micro Devices, Nvidia, and Qualcomm had received encouragement from Microsoft to develop new CPUs to support a plethora of new AI features in Windows.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said the chips would help bring in a new era of “AI PCs” for consumers and companies during a video appearance at Qualcomm’s event.
The demand for laptops with AI capabilities will increase, according to Francis Sideco, an analyst with TIRIAS Research, as businesses like Adobe roll out the capacity to use AI to generate pictures for everything from beer can labels to real estate brochures.
