Rainstorm has wreaked havoc at Iyara Community, the headquarters of Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, removing roofs of over 100 houses while irendering more than 3,000 people homeless.
The rainstorm which occurred Monday night affected residents who are now counting their losses as some are currently taking shelter with neighbours, families and friends.
Speaking shortly after embarking on an on-the-spot assessment of the wreckages, the Eleta Oluyara of Iyara, Oba Jacob Meduteni described the disaster as unfortunate especially coming at a time the people are faced with economic hardship.

Oba Meduteni called on wealthy individuals and corporate bodies to assist the victims to ameliorate their sufferings.
The National President of Iyara Development Association (IDA), Alh. Aliyu Badaki, further revealed that over 1,000 persons, mostly women and children were affected by the disaster.
Badaki described the destruction as massive and a disaster beyond what the victims can solely handle due to the prevailing economic situation in the country.
He therefore appealed to the Kogi State Government through the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, and the Federal Government via the National Emergency Management Agency to come to the aid of the victims.
