Real Madrid delivered a masterclass performance to thrash Girona 4-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday and move five points clear at the top of La Liga.
The hosts took the lead in the sixth minute when Vinicius Jr unleashed a stunning strike from the edge of the box that left Paulo Gazzaniga helpless.
Girona, who had been the surprise challengers for the title, tried to respond with their possession-based style, but found little space against a disciplined and determined Real Madrid side.

The second goal came in the 35th minute, when Vinicius turned provider for Jude Bellingham, who slotted the ball past Gazzaniga after a brilliant run and pass from the Brazilian.
Bellingham, who has been in sensational form this season, scored his second of the night and 20th of the campaign in the 54th minute, tapping in the rebound after Gazzaniga had parried Vinicius’ shot.
The England international, however, had to be substituted shortly after due to an ankle injury that could be a concern for Madrid and their fans.
Rodrygo added the fourth goal in the 61st minute, finishing off a swift counter-attack with a cool finish.
Girona’s misery was compounded in stoppage time, when Joselu missed a penalty after Tchouameni had fouled him in the box.
The result leaves Madrid with 61 points from 24 games, five ahead of second-placed Girona and 11 ahead of third-placed Barcelona, who have a game in hand.
Madrid will look to maintain their momentum when they face Rayo Vallecano next week, while Girona will hope to bounce back against Athletic Club.
