Yunusa Tanko, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement Worldwide, has announced plans to introduce a formal registration process for current and prospective members.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Monday, he revealed that the movement aims to establish a structured system to effectively identify its members.
“Within the next few months, there will be an announcement for registration, formal registration. We want to identify you where you are and what you do,” Tanko said.
Tanko was recently appointed as the coordinator of Peter Obi’s political movement, following Obi’s candidacy for the Labour Party in the 2023 election.
He emphasized that the Obidient Movement revolves around the principle of good governance, a core message advocated by Obi.
According to Tanko, anyone who believes in good governance for Nigeria naturally identifies as an Obidient.
He added that the movement aims to include individuals “who have the capacity to engage in a formal and constructive manner.”
Tanko acknowledged that while many members of the movement are currently affiliated with the Labour Party, the Obidient Movement transcends party lines.
Expanding on the movement’s mission, Tanko stated that it is focused on promoting good governance, encouraging active citizen participation, fostering national unity, and upholding fairness and equity.
He envisions a Nigeria that earns respect on the global stage.
When asked about comparisons with the Kwankwasiyya movement, Tanko noted that the Obidient Movement enjoys broader acceptance.
He credited Labour Party members for their significant contributions to the movement’s growth but mentioned that discussions will be held to determine future membership fees.
