Remi Tinubu Didn’t Ask for Schools or Hospitals, She Asked for More Bombs; Let That Sink — Netizen

A viral social media post has ignited widespread outrage and debate across Nigeria after sharply criticising First Lady Oluremi Tinubu for reportedly prioritising U.S. military airstrikes over long-term development needs in the country’s north.

The post, originally shared by X user @ali_naka on February 10, 2026, reads: “Remi Tinubu did not ask the United States for Investment, Education, or even Healthcare for the Northern Nigeria.

She asked more BOMBS! Let that sink.” Accompanied by images and quickly amplified through reposts and screenshots, the message has garnered thousands of likes, reposts, and replies within hours, with many users echoing the sentiment using variations of the same phrasing.

The backlash stems directly from comments made by the First Lady during a recent interview with Fox News Digital in Washington, D.C.

While visiting the United States, Oluremi Tinubu described a U.S. military airstrike conducted on Christmas Day 2025—targeting Islamist militants in northwest Nigeria—as “quite a blessing.”

She expressed Nigeria’s openness to deeper security collaboration with the United States, stating, “The intervention of the U.S. was quite a welcome development.

Nigeria is looking forward to collaboration… We are expecting that there will be more.”

The remarks came amid ongoing discussions in Washington about insecurity in Nigeria, including concerns over attacks on Christians, banditry, and insurgent groups operating in the north.

Tinubu’s comments highlighted the government’s willingness to accept continued U.S. involvement in counterterrorism operations, particularly following the Trump administration’s direct military action against terrorist targets.

However, critics have seized on the absence of any mention of requests for investment in education, healthcare, infrastructure, or economic development—issues that many argue are root causes of the very insecurity the strikes aim to address.

Social media users, particularly from northern Nigeria and opposition voices, have framed the First Lady’s stance as tone-deaf and insensitive, accusing her of favoring military solutions over holistic development.

One widely shared reply captured the growing frustration: “When given the opportunity to ask the United States for investment in education, infrastructure or healthcare for Northern Nigeria, Remi Tinubu chose bombs. Sit with that.”

Others went further, labeling the position as evidence of neglect toward the region and calling for political consequences in future elections.

Defenders of the approach, however, argue that security must come first.

Several responses pointed out that without eliminating terrorist and bandit groups, investments in schools, hospitals, or other infrastructure would be futile, as such facilities could be destroyed or rendered inaccessible.

One user wrote: “Bombs on terrorists… are your cousins terrorists? Why are you terrorist sympathiser?”The controversy has exposed deeper divisions in public discourse around Nigeria’s security strategy.

While the government has long sought international partnerships to combat insurgency, banditry, and kidnappings, critics maintain that over-reliance on external military action—without parallel efforts to tackle poverty, unemployment, and poor governance—risks perpetuating cycles of violence rather than resolving them.

As the post continues to circulate and spawn memes, quoted replies, and heated arguments, it has become a rallying point for those demanding that Nigeria’s leadership focus on building rather than simply bombing.

Whether the viral criticism translates into broader political pressure remains to be seen, but for now, the phrase “She asked for more BOMBS! Let that sink” has struck a nerve far beyond one X thread.
