Binance: House of Reps Dissociates Itself from Three Lawmakers Accused of Demanding $150 Million in Bribes from Binance

The House of Representatives has dismissed allegations that three of its lawmakers demanded $150 million in bribes from Binance, clarifying that the claims were directed at individual members, not the legislative body as an institution.

Akin Rotimi, the House spokesman, issued a statement on Saturday, asserting that the House upholds due process, the rule of law, and constitutional oversight.

“As an independent arm of government, the House upholds due process, the rule of law, and constitutional oversight. These allegations, which have been previously circulated last year, are directed at individual members, not the institution itself,” the statement reads.

The lawmakers accused of demanding bribes—Philip Agbese, Peter Akpanke, and Ginger Obinna Onwusibe—have denied the allegations. Mr. Agbese dismissed Tigran Gambaryan, a detained Binance executive who made the claims, as a “drowning man.” Mr. Onwusibe, who has taken legal action, declined further comment, while Mr. Akpanke could not be reached.

Mr. Gambaryan alleged that the State Security Service (SSS) was involved and that National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu sought “billions in payouts to fund his future political ambition.”

This controversy adds to the ongoing tensions between Binance and Nigerian authorities over cryptocurrency regulation and financial oversight.
