BREAKING: Reps Propose Six-Year Tenure for President, Rotation Among Zones

A group of legislators in the House of Representatives is advocating for revisions to the 1999 Constitution to facilitate the rotation of the Presidency among Nigeria’s six geo-political zones.

Additionally, they propose an amendment to introduce a single six-year tenure for both the President and Governors of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Speaking on behalf of the group in Abuja, Ikenga Ugochinyere, the representative for Ideato South/Ideato North Federal Constituency, Imo State, highlighted the potential benefits, including reduced government spending and waste, enhanced governance efficiency, and national stability.

Ikenga Ugochinyere, said, “The reduction in government spending and wastage, efficiency in governance, and national stability by providing a single term of six years for the President and Governors,” will go a long way in cost-cutting measures.”
