Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has called on leaders of the Muslim community to resist any attempts to divide the state’s residents along religious lines.
Makinde made the appeal on Tuesday while hosting a delegation of Muslim leaders in the state. He emphasised that such divisions could only benefit individuals or groups seeking personal gain.
The governor urged anyone intending to exploit religion for divisive purposes to reconsider, stating that Oyo State must remain united.
Speaking further, he commended the Muslim community for their support of his administration and pledged his continued commitment to fostering unity among the state’s residents.
Addressing the recent stampede at Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan, Makinde assured that justice would be served to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
He reiterated his stance against religious or political divisions, urging leaders to resist and expose those promoting such agendas.
Makinde stated, “I will keep saying it: if people want to divide us along religious or political lines, we as leaders must resist that attempt and expose them.
“So, I want to say that it is our state; some have come and gone, and I will go too. Whatever we do for our state is what the successor will meet and continue from there.

“I am begging you that we should resist their attempts because there are people who will profit from our division. But if we don’t allow division, they will go elsewhere.
“So, I want to use this opportunity to say that if there are certain people using the issue to play politics, they should have a rethink and constantly stay on the side of the law,” he added.
