After the U.S. designation of Nigeria over worsening insecurity and religious persecution, Nigerians have taken to social media to lampoon Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The designation, which drew international attention to the killings of Christians and worsening human rights conditions in the country, has triggered widespread criticism and satire online, with many Nigerians expressing frustration over the Tinubu administration’s response.

Reacting to the development, prominent political commentator Nefertiti (@firstladyship) mocked Tinubu’s handling of the situation.
She wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “If rice could silence President Trump, Tinubu would have sent $2bn worth of rice to America.”
Nefertiti further described Tinubu as “a local champion who relies on tribal wars, the judiciary, political thugs, and sycophants to rule.”
Her post quickly gained traction, drawing humorous but pointed responses from other users. One verified account, Chef LawRei, added: “If rice could fix reputation, Tinubu would’ve shipped a whole vessel to Washington by now.”
The wave of reactions highlights growing public frustration following Washington’s renewed focus on Nigeria’s deteriorating security situation and the U.S. government’s decision to place the country under increased monitoring for religious freedom violations.
Many Nigerians say the episode underscores the Tinubu government’s struggle to defend its global image amid mounting international scrutiny and domestic challenges.
