Rivers Assembly Members Move to Impeach Governor Siminialayi Fubara

A significant majority of the Rivers House of Assembly, with 24 out of 32 members, has officially signed a document to initiate the impeachment process against Governor Siminialayi Fubara.

The move came in the wake of the Assembly’s decision to impeach and suspend House Leader Edison Ehie, who was perceived to be aligned with the Governor.

These decisive actions were taken during an emergency session convened by the lawmakers on Monday morning.

The extraordinary session unfolded between the hours of 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. on Monday, shrouded in secrecy as reporters were prohibited from attending. However, reliable sources have confirmed that all 24 members who endorsed the impeachment notice were present.

Notably, Edison Ehie, who is believed to be an ally of Governor Fubara, was conspicuously absent during the session.

Later on, he arrived at the Assembly premises in the company of the Governor. Unfortunately for them, the lawmakers had already completed their actions, swiftly departing the Assembly complex through the secondary gates, denying Fubara and Ehie access to the facility.
