Former Scotland international Steve Nicol has claimed that Portugal will not win the 2026 FIFA World Cup if Cristiano Ronaldo is their starting centre-forward.
Speaking after Portugal’s 3-1 UEFA Nations League victory over Poland, Nicol expressed doubts about Ronaldo’s impact on the team’s chances.
Nicol stated during an appearance on ESPN FC, “If Cristiano is your starting centre-forward in the World Cup, Portugal will not win it.
“I will guarantee you that,” he added.
Ronaldo, who recently scored his 906th career goal, will be 41 years old when the 2026 World Cup begins.
