As the Seriki Fulani of Badagry, Alhaji Mohammed Umar has been formally installed by Oba Sejiro James, the Aholu of Kweme, the traditional ruler of Kweme Kingdom in Badagry, Lagos State.
Fulani socio-cultural organizations from the South-West and neighbouring Benin Republic attended the coronation ceremony.
During the event, held at the Sito Gbethrome community along the Semé Expressway in Badagry, Mr. James presented the new Seriki Fulani with a traditional staff and beads. He remarked, “Though the stool you occupy is high, you have been endorsed by God today, and He will guide you.”
The traditional ruler advised the newly installed Seriki Fulani to remain proactive in addressing issues within the Badagry communities, particularly tensions between pastoralists and farmers. He also suggested appointing representatives in various communities to ensure effective management of affairs.
Saidu Yusuf, chairman of the APC for Arewa communities in Lagos State, called on the Fulani and Yoruba to collaborate for unity and community development, urging them to set aside political differences to achieve shared goals.

Mohammed Laba, the Seriki Fulani of Abeokuta and chairman of Miyetti Allah in the South-West, emphasized the importance of installing leaders like the Seriki Fulani in fostering conflict resolution. Similarly, Aminu Dogara, chairman of the Arewa Council of Chiefs in Lagos, reaffirmed the council’s commitment to the welfare of all residents.
In his address, the new Seriki Fulani pledged to tackle pressing issues affecting his people, including poverty, education, and healthcare, while fostering harmony within the region.
