The Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja has been temporarily closed following a runway incursion involving an aircraft.
The occurrence happened at approximately 10:47 a.m. on Sunday as a Boeing 733 bearing Nationality and Registration Marks 5N-BYQ was involved.
The aircraft, which was on a Lagos-Abuja flight operated by Aerocontractors, experienced a mishap during its landing.
While taxiing on Runway incursion A4, the plane’s nose wheel became stuck to the ground. Fortunately, there were no reported fatalities or injuries, and all passengers were safely disembarked from the aircraft.
Currently, efforts are underway to remove the Boeing 733 from the runway, allowing for the resumption of airport operations. The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has initiated an investigation into the incident following notification.

Dr. James Odaudu, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at NSIB, confirmed the incident and reiterated that no injuries or fatalities occurred during the runway incursion. Stay tuned for updates as the investigation unfolds.
“The aircraft, upon landing at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, from Lagos and in a bid to exit the runway via A4, had its nose wheel stuck in the grass verge with its fuselage on the runway.
“Consequently, the runway was closed pending the towing of the aircraft from the runway. There was no injury or fatality.
“The NSIB, hereby, solicits information from the general public in the form of pictures, video or recordings to assist in conducting a comprehensive investigation,” he said.
