They Are Guilty of Unlawful Activities — Ruto’s Government Declares Kenyan Tax Protesters Wanted

Kenyan authorities declared several anti-Finance Bill protesters wanted on Tuesday, as demonstrations continued into their third week.

The Kenyan police posted photos of the wanted protesters on X, accusing them of engaging in “unlawful activities” during the protests.

“The individuals whose images/photos appear below are wanted by the police for their unlawful activities during the anti-finance bill demonstrations,” the police said on X.

They urged the identified protesters to surrender at the nearest police station for “further police action.”

In response, some Kenyans criticized the police on X for ignoring instances where officers fired live bullets at protesters and for hiring goons to disrupt the demonstrations.

The protests, led by Kenyan youth, have disrupted commercial activities nationwide in opposition to the Finance Bill, which imposes new taxes on some commodities.

Despite President William Ruto withdrawing the bill last Wednesday following violent clashes, protesters remain unsatisfied and are now demanding his resignation.

On Tuesday, hundreds of youth carrying coffins marched in Nairobi as part of the #RutoMustGo protest, defying police efforts to control the unrest. Similar protests occurred in Mombasa, Kisii, Kisumu, Migori-Rongo, and other regions.

The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights reported that police actions against protesters have resulted in 39 deaths and 361 injuries from June 18 to July 1.

Additionally, there have been 32 cases of enforced disappearances during the same period.

However, President Ruto disputed these figures, stating in an interview on Sunday that 19 people had been killed during the protests.
