Supreme Court Upholds Oborevwori’s Victory as Delta Governor

The Supreme Court of Nigeria on Friday affirmed the election of Sheriff Oborevwori of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as the governor of Delta State.

The apex court dismissed an appeal filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, who challenged the outcome of the governorship election that took place in the state on March 18, 2023.

In a unanimous decision, a five-member panel of the court, led by Justice Inyang Okoro, held that the appeal lacked merit and failed to prove any irregularities or substantial non-compliance with the Electoral Act.

Oborevwori, who is the immediate past Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, was declared the winner of the governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on March 20, 2023.

He was sworn in as the governor of Delta State on May 29, 2023.
