S/Court Judgments: “Voice of the People is Heard,” Northern Group Expresses Faith in Judiciary

The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has expressed optimism that recent Supreme Court judgments on governorship election disputes across various states will contribute to the restoration of public faith in Nigeria’s justice system.

According to the CNG, these decisions not only potentially reinstated confidence but also showcased the judiciary’s commitment to justice and fairness.

In a statement signed by CNG’s national coordinator, Jamilu Aliyu Charanci, the group urged governors to ensure the conduct of free and fair elections into local government councils, aligning with democratic standards.

Charanci emphasised that the Supreme Court Justices’ considered decisions demonstrated dedication to sustaining justice and fairness, reinforcing the judiciary’s role as the temple of justice.

Charanci stated, “The Supreme Court Justices, through their considered decisions, have proven their dedication to the sustainment of justice and fairness. By upholding the popular will of the people, they have reasserted the judiciary’s position as the temple of justice.

“This is a significant achievement, as it ensures that the voice of the people is heard and respected, and that the democratic process is upheld.

“Tinubu’s neutrality throughout the Supreme Court process indicates his commitment to leaving a legacy of entrenched judicial independence for coming administrations to build upon. It is important for Tinubu to take measures to further strengthen the nation’s institutions to ensure a stable nation that the future can be proud of,” the statement partly concluded.
