Austin Okai, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the 2023 House of Representatives candidate for Dekina/Bassa Federal Constituency in Kogi State, has advised civil servants in the state not to praise Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for the recent salary payments.
Speaking on Saturday, Okai emphasised that salaries are a fundamental right of workers, earned through their labor and dedication.
Kogi State civil servants recently expressed satisfaction after receiving their October salaries, which incorporated the newly approved minimum wage of ₦72,500.
Sunday Baba, a Director of Civil Engineering in the state’s Ministry of Works, lauded Governor Ododo’s administration, describing it as a “divine intervention for humanity.” Baba also expressed optimism that this development would secure unwavering support from civil servants for Ododo’s leadership.
However, Okai urged workers to refrain from excessive gratitude for what he views as a basic entitlement.
Okai stated, “Kogi workers, you have earned your salary through your hard work and dedication and you have every right to receive it without needing to thank the government.

“Stop praising the government for the payment of salary, other people are looking at us somehow, they are looking at us as if we are not part of this world.
“We are appearing funny, I am aware Bello was stealing and looting the worker’s salary, today he is hidden in a hole in the government house, Gov. Ododo knows the implications,” he added.
