Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu approved a whopping N18 million for the distribution of 2000 chickens, N2 billion for rechargeable fans, and N7.4 million for office fragrance as revealed in the Public Procurement awards disclosed by the Lagos State Government (LASG) for the 2nd and 3rd quarters of 2023.
In response, the ADC Lagos State Gubernatorial Candidate, Funsho Doherty, in an open letter on his X handle, called on the state government to undertake a comprehensive review of the procurement awards.
In the open letter titled ” Open Letter on Selected Public Procurements by LASG in the Period April–September 2023, Doherty highlighted selected awards that, in his opinion, require greater scrutiny.
Doherty highlighted instances where the state government allocated significant funds, including N18,468,000 for the Distribution of 2000 Noiler Chickens, N2 billion for Rechargeable Fans, and N7.4 million for Office Fragrance among other extravagant spending.
Sanwo-Olu expressed concerns about what he perceives as wasteful spending, underscoring the necessity for a prudent and accountable use of public funds.
“I just wrote an open letter to the Governor on Public Procurement awards reported by LASG for the 2nd and 3rd quarters of 2023, highlighting a number of issues for further scrutiny and remedial action. Judicious use of public funds is always important, and is especially so now,” Doherty stated.
