Amid Economic Hardship, Sanwo-Olu Increases Lagos Public School Boarding Fees from N35,000 to N100,000 Per Term

Amid economic hardship, the Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced a 300% increase in boarding fees for public schools, raising the cost from N35,000 to N100,000 per term.

This was released in a circular issued by the Lagos State Government through the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education and was signed by Olufemi Asaolu who serves as the Director of Basic Education Services.

All boarding school principals have been directed to implement the new fee structure as students prepare for the 2024/2025 academic session.

“The new approved fee is One Hundred Thousand Naira (100,000) only. I am further directed to inform you that no additional fees of any form should be collected by the schools.”

However, this decision, aimed at addressing funding challenges within the education sector, has sparked significant debate among parents and educators as the country is been faced with economic hardship.
