Despite Dilapidated State of Lagos Schools, Sanwo-Olu Spent Almost N2 Billion in 3 Months on Helicopter Charter — GRV

Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the 2023 Lagos gubernatorial candidate for Labour Party, has raised concerns over the extravagant spending by the Lagos state government on helicopter charters for Governor Sanwo-Olu’s travel while schools are dilapidated.

According to Rhodes-Vivour, in April 2022 alone, sanwo-olu’s government spent a staggering N1,039,875,000 on helicopter charter services for the governor’s regular travel.

This expenditure continued into July and August 2023, with an additional N512,000,000 allocated for the same purpose.

Rhodes-Vivour questioned whether it is justifiable for Lagos to spend close to N2 billion within three months solely on transporting the governor via private helicopters, especially when significant parts of Lagos Island lack access to clean, running water.

In a post on his twitter handle he sated that “In April 2022 alone, the Lagos state government spent N1,039,875,000 on HELICOPTER CHARTER SERVICE FOR MR. GOVERNOR’S REGULAR TRAVELLING.

“In July and August 2023, it spent N512,000,000 on the same helicopters. Should Lagos be spending close to N2 billion in just three months transporting the Governor in a Private Helicopter when most parts of his primary constituency in Lagos Island do not have portable water running from their taps?

“A Rhodes-Vivour government will use Drones, as opposed to helicopters for project supervisions. This will save the state funds that will be put towards human capital development. E.g. With N1.2 billion, we can pay 1,000 teachers N100,000/month for a year.

“This will bring us closer to our goal of achieving the best public primary and secondary school education system in the country. A Rhodes-Vivour government will not pay for officials to travel on private Jets. Any official that intends to fly private will pay privately,” GRV stated.

Rhodes-Vivour reveals a stack of documents that reveal the excessive spending and entrenched corruption within the APC-led government of Lagos State by sanwo-olu.

“I have just received a pile of documents that once again demonstrates the profligacy and deep rooted corruption of the APC led government in Lagos state.

“But before i publish these documents, i sincerely want to know which would upset you the most as a citizen: 1. N1.7 billion spent on private Jets in 1yr 2. >N50 billion paid for road design consultancy 3. N100m paid for N20m cars 4. N10b spent renovating 1 school.” He stated. #sanwo-olu
