Hon. Henry Shield, Head of Mission at the Leadership & Accountability Initiative, has raised concerns over what he describes as a governance crisis under Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, citing delays in budget implementation and economic transparency.
In a post on his official X account, Shield stated that the government is “crashing” under its current handling of economic affairs.
He noted that the 2025 budget has yet to be implemented, while the 2026 budget, constitutionally expected three months ago, has still not been submitted.
He added that the administration is being sustained largely by propaganda.
“This government is crashing on Tinubu’s head. So many secrets about the economy are being hidden. The 2025 budget is yet to be implemented, while the 2026 budget should have been submitted three months ago. Only propaganda is holding them for now.”
The post has sparked widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians expressing frustration over the administration’s handling of public finances.
A user, Comrade Iba Monso, said “It’s very unfortunate that we have less than 30 days to the end of this year and the 2025 budget is yet to be implemented. Everything about APC and Lagos hawks is propaganda and lies.”
Another user, Hope Chukwukadibia, added, “The country is in a state of convulsion like we’ve never seen before. Nigeria genuinely scares me right now.”
Others accused the government of failing to prioritise transparency and accountability. Lucas wrote: “To be honest, Tinubu knows his government has failed. He knows Nigerians know this as well. But he’s giving Nigerians the middle finger.”
@Akin added, “He’s probably no longer interested in the budget process. Oga likes to allocate public funds to his guys without transparency. He may eventually abandon the budget process if Nigerians fail to kick him out.”
Shield’s warning highlights growing public concern over the government’s economic management and the need for timely implementation of national budgets to ensure transparency and accountability.
