Following the conflict between Samuel Anyanwu and Sunday Ude-Okoye over the rightful National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), security agencies have taken control of the party’s secretariat.
The security personnel include soldiers, police officers, and members of the National Security and Civil Defense Corps.
Trouble started when Anyanwu and Ude-Okoye arrived to attend the Board of Trustees, (BoT) meeting.
An aide to Samuel Anyanwu forcefully removed Ude-Okoye from the meeting shortly after it went into a closed-door session.

This action sparked a heated exchange between both camps until security operatives stepped in to restore order.
The position of National Secretary has remained a contentious issue since Anyanwu vacated the seat to contest the Imo governorship election, which he eventually lost.
In his absence, the South East Caucus of the party endorsed Ude-Okoye as his replacement.
Following his defeat in the Imo election, Anyanwu’s attempt to reclaim his former position as National Secretary plunged the party into further crisis.

On December 20, 2024, the Court of Appeal sitting in Enugu upheld a previous High Court ruling that removed Senator Anyanwu and affirmed Ude-Okoye as the legitimate PDP National Secretary.
However, Anyanwu has filed for a Stay of Execution and an Appeal. Meanwhile, Dr. Musa (SAN) has been nominated as the party’s legal counsel by Damagum, adding another layer to the ongoing dispute.
