Security, Economy, Corruption, have Worsened with the Current Govt — Obi

Peter Obi has stated that since Tinubu took office, Nigeria’s economy and security have been worse, and that corruption has gotten worse under the current government.

The former Anambra State governor, who expressed deep concern over the escalating violence and insecurity in Nigeria, particularly in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, in recent times, criticized the current administration for its failure to improve the country’s situation in three key areas: security, economy, and corruption (SEC).

These were the same areas that former President Muhammadu Buhari had promised to address during his campaign in 2015. However, Obi pointed out that the situation has worsened in all three areas during Buhari’s eight-year tenure and has continued in the same direction with the current administration.

In a recent tweet on X (formerly Twitter), Obi recalled the Annual General Conference of the Nigerian Bar Association held in Lagos in August 2022, where then Vice Presidential Candidate, Sen Kashim Shettima, had promised that if APC was elected, he would take charge of security while the President would handle the economy.

Obi implored the current leaders to fulfill their campaign promises. He stated, “Even if they do not achieve 100% results, we want to see 100% effort.”

He also called for a halt to all foreign trips by government officials until the domestic crisis is addressed. He argued that the current state of affairs in the country is discouraging foreign investment.

Furthermore, he emphasized the need for sincere efforts to end the spread of violence and insecurity in Nigeria. He stressed, “We must make sincere efforts to end the spread of violence and insecurity in our nation in order to make any meaningful progress.”
