The Senate has officially endorsed the appointment of 11 new Justices to the Supreme Court, achieving the complete composition of the nation’s highest judicial body with a total of 21 members.
These vacancies arose due to retirements and departures, prompting Bola Tinubu to nominate the 11 Justices based on recommendations from the National Judicial Council.
Among the appointed Justices are notable figures such as Justice Haruna Tsammani (Northeast), who previously chaired the Presidential Election Petition Court, Justice Moore Adumein (South-South), Justice Jummai Sankey (North-central), Justice Chidiebere Uwa (South-east), and Justice Chioma Nwosu-Iheme (South-east).
Completing the roster are Justice Obande Ogbuinya (South-east), Justice Stephen Adah (North-central), Justice Habeeb Abiru (South-west), Justice Jamilu Tukur (Northwest), Justice Abubakar Umar (Northwest), and Justice Mohammed Idris (North-central).

The Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights, and Legal Matters diligently reviewed the nominations, ensuring that all candidates met the constitutional requirement of at least 15 years of relevant experience and demonstrated exceptional qualities suitable for the demanding role.
Committee Chairman Mohammed Tahir assured the Senate of the nominees’ qualifications, and Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau praised the Committee’s thoroughness, expressing confidence in the selected Justices. The Senate, through a unanimous voice vote, officially confirmed all 11 nominees.
