BREAKING: Senate Passes N70,000 Minimum Wage Bill Amid Concerns That New Wage Will Not Cover Cost of Basic Goods

The Senate has passed a bill to amend the National Minimum Wage Act of 2019, increasing the national minimum wage from N30,000 to N70,000.

This legislative change, forwarded by Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu, also reduces the interval for reviewing the minimum wage from five years to three years.

Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, in his lead debate on the bill, highlighted the need for the amendment in response to widespread agitations from organized labor and other societal segments due to the prevailing economic situation.
