Lawmaker Launches 1,000 Scholarship Award Scheme For Ogun Students

Senator Olamilekan Adeola, representing Ogun West Senatorial District cum the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation, on Sunday, inaugurated a Scholarship Award scheme to support 1,000 indigent students from his Senatorial district in their pursuit of quality education.

This scholarship programme, Parallel Facts gathered, is designed to assist students from Ogun West Senatorial District who are currently enrolled in tertiary institutions across the country.

The initiative reflects Senator Adeola’s commitment to facilitating access to education for deserving students in his constituency.

During the inauguration held in Ilaro, Prof. Tope Popoola, the Chairman of the Yayi Scholarship Scheme Board, spoke about the primary objective of the scholarship program, which is to provide financial assistance to indigent students, enabling them to access quality education.

Popoola emphasised that the scheme complements the various intervention programs Senator Adeola has already initiated in the education sector.

Some of the intervention programmes mentioned by Popoola include the donation of laptop computers to 1,000 students and teachers, facilitating ICT training for 1,000 students and teachers, providing school bags and textbooks, and covering the WAEC fees of disadvantaged students.

The scholarship scheme’s first phase is specifically focused on supporting brilliant undergraduate students by covering their school fees and related expenses. The subsequent phase aims to sponsor students for postgraduate studies abroad.

Speaking about the initiative, Popoola stated, “In fulfillment of his campaign promise, Senator Olamilekan Adeola proposed to support indigent students of the district in the pursuit of their educational endeavors by awarding scholarships to deserving students. The scholarship scheme will initially serve as a substantial support measure for indigent but brilliant students from the district.”

According to PUNCH, qualified candidates for the scholarship must be children or wards of individuals from Ogun West, enrolled in public tertiary institutions, and provide evidence of residency within a Local Government in the Senatorial district.

The Board Secretary, Dapo Oke, assured that the programme would operate with transparency and offer special consideration to students with disabilities.

He highlighted that the scholarship’s primary objective is to promote education as a tool for development in the Ogun West Senatorial District.

The launch of this scholarship program is a commendable effort by Senator Olamilekan Adeola to empower and support the educational aspirations of deserving students within his constituency, ultimately contributing to the growth and development of the region.
