Amidst Severe Economic Downturn and Growing Insecurity, Nigerian Senators, Reps Head to Cote d’Ivoire to Support Super Eagles

Despite Nigeria grappling with severe economic challenges and escalating insecurity, senators and representatives of the National Assembly are set to travel to Cote d’Ivoire to rally behind the Super Eagles against Angola at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Against a backdrop of economic uncertainty and rising security concerns, Senator Kawu Sumaila, chairman of the Senate Committee on Sports, emphasized the significance of their solidarity, affirming, “The principal officers of the National Assembly and the two Committees on Sports will also be in Cote d’Ivoire to watch the quarter-finals with Angola.”

While the nation grapples with pressing issues, including the fate of the Super Eagles’ coach, Jose Peseiro, post-tournament discussions remain on the agenda. Senator Kawu hinted at forthcoming deliberations, stating, “We will look at it (the coach’s fate), after the competition, I am sure of victory for the Super Eagles against Angola.”

The winner of the Nigeria vs. Angola encounter will progress to face the triumphant side of Cape Verde vs. South Africa on February 7 at the Peace Stadium in Bouake.
