President Bassirou Faye of Senegal has dissolved the National Assembly and announced new legislative elections scheduled for November 17.
In a national address, Faye confirmed that the decision followed consultations with the Constitutional Council, the Prime Minister, and the President of the National Assembly.
He stated in a national address, “After consulting the Constitutional Council on the right date, the prime minister and the president of the National Assembly on the appropriateness, I dissolve the National Assembly.
“And I announce that the legislative elections holds on Nov. 17,” he added.
Faye, who won the presidential election in March with 54.28% of the vote, leads the African Patriots of Senegal for Work, Ethics and Fraternity party, which currently holds a minority in the National Assembly.
