The Senegalese navy has intercepted a vessel, carrying three tonnes of cocaine valued at $210 million.
The offshore patrol vessel, cutting through the waves in the country’s southern waters, seized the contraband 425 kilometers from the coast, signifying a setback against drug trafficking.
On Thursday, the seven-person crew found themselves on the wrong side of the law as Senegal’s naval came down upon them.
The capture unfolded 265 miles from the shore, showcasing the navy’s vigilance and resolve.
“The seizure is worth at least 126 billion CFA francs ($210 million),” declared the Senegalese navy, underlining the magnitude of the operation.

This recent triumph follows closely on the heels of another victory on November 28, when Senegal’s armed forces confiscated an additional three tonnes of cocaine from a ten-crew vessel. The relentless crackdown in fewer than three weeks has seen six tonnes of this Class A drug taken off the illicit market.
Notably, West and Central Africa, once transit routes for narcotics from Latin America to Europe, now find themselves grappling with a surge in drug use, as confirmed by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.
