The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has petitioned the Federal High Court in Lagos to prevent the House of Representatives from procuring N57.6 billion 360 sports utility vehicles (SUVs) for its members pending the hearing and determination of the organization’s injunction.
SERAP’s claims for interim and interlocutory injunctions came after reports that the lawmakers were planning to buy and deliver N57.6 billion SUVs, each costing N160 million.
SERAP is seeking “an order of interim injunction restraining the National Assembly from procuring, taking delivery and distributing the SUVs to their members, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice for an order of interlocutory injunction filed simultaneously in this suit.”
Additionally, SERAP is requesting any additional orders that the Honorable Court may see appropriate given the circumstances surrounding the case at hand.
Remember that SERAP sued the Federal High Court in August under the case number FHC/L/CS/1606/2023, contesting “the legality of the spending of billions of naira by the National Assembly to purchase exotic and bulletproof cars for members and principal officials.”
Furthermore, SERAP has sent President Bola Tinubu an open letter asking him to exert pressure on the House of Representatives leadership to prevent members from accepting 360 sports utility vehicles (SUVs) while the application for an interim injunction is being heard and decided.
