Seven Women Killed by Soldiers Escorting Brigade Commander During Protest in Lamurde, Adamawa

At least seven women were killed on Monday in Lamurde, Adamawa State, after soldiers escorting Brigade Commander Amechi Agwu of the 23 Brigade opened fire on a group of protesters.

According to a report by SaharaReporters, it was learned that the women, who had gathered to condemn the delayed response of security forces to earlier militia attacks, were instead met with deadly force, triggering widespread outrage and fear across the community.

The shooting occurred at Rigange Junction, hours after suspected Chobo-speaking militias launched coordinated assaults on multiple villages within Lamurde Local Government Area.

Residents told SaharaReporters that security personnel arrived only after the attackers had carried out their rampage and withdrawn, prompting the women to stage the protest demanding accountability.

A respected community leader, overwhelmed with emotion, said 12 women were shot, with seven dying instantly. “Five others are battling for their lives at Numan General Hospital,” he said, struggling to recount the chaos that followed the gunfire.

According to eyewitnesses, the protest reflected mounting frustration among residents who say they have suffered repeated attacks without timely intervention by security agencies. “The women were angry, exhausted, and desperate for answers,” one resident said. “They wanted protection. What they got were bullets.”

However, the Nigerian Army had not issued an official statement on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
