Soldiers Clash with Terrorists in Plateau, Dozens Killed

A violent confrontation between soldiers and terrorists left dozens dead and injured in two villages of Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State on Saturday morning.

The clash, which lasted for about half an hour, started when the gunmen attacked some communities along Gindri road around 7 am. The soldiers, who were stationed nearby, quickly responded and engaged the assailants in a fierce gun battle.

According to a source quoted by DailyTrust, “About 30 of the gunmen were killed while more than 50 of them were arrested with guns and ammunition. Four soldiers were equally injured.”

The identity and motive of the gunmen are still unknown, but some residents suspect they are linked to the recent spate of violence in the state that has claimed over 200 lives in the past month.

The incident occurred after Governor Caleb Mutfwang relaxed the 24-hour curfew imposed on the area following the improvement of security.

However, another source said that the villagers were still in fear and appealed for more protection from the authorities.

The state government and the security agencies have not issued any official statement on the clash as of the time of filing this report.
