Sowore Working for Tinubu—Shehu Gazali Sadiq Warns Nigerians Against Joining Planned Protest for Nnamdi Kanu’s Release

Social commentator Shehu Gazali Sadiq has cautioned Nigerians against joining the planned October 20 protest organised by activist Omoyele Sowore to demand the release of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

In a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Sadiq warned that many Nigerians applauding those planning to join the protest today would later label them as IPOB supporters for political gain.

“If you join Sowore for the October 20 protest to release Nnamdi Kanu, the same Nigerians applauding you today will label you IPOB supporter tomorrow, for political gains. A word is enough for the wise. Sowore is working for Tinubu,” he wrote.

Sadiq’s post sparked a flurry of reactions online, with users expressing sharply divided opinions about the protest and Sowore’s motives.

While some agreed with Sadiq’s position, calling the protest a political game plan, others argued that demanding Nnamdi Kanu’s release should not be tied to political interests.

One user, @michaelakinnike, wrote, “I think we should all be out speaking out against the incarceration of Mazi, regardless of political views. Even though Sowore go still use am score points and speak against PO, but I know this is the right thing to do.”

Another user, @mayorik90, disagreed, warning that joining Sowore on the 20th could “systematically link the Igbos or IPOB to EndSARS,” insisting that any protest for Kanu should be held on a separate date.

Similarly, @traitz59 said he has “always believed Sowore works for the APC,” while @AMADIOHA01 lamented Kanu’s continued detention, arguing that “2027 will come, and people will realise how right MNK is about Nigeria.”

Sadiq’s warning adds to the growing debate surrounding Sowore’s call for a nationwide protest, which is scheduled to take place on October 20, the same day Nigerians commemorate the EndSARS anniversary.

While Sowore insists the protest is meant to demand justice and freedom for Nnamdi Kanu, critics like Sadiq believe the activist may be using the cause for political relevance.
