BREAKING: Detained Nigerian Singer Speed Darlington Released On Bail After Burna Boy’s Petition

The Nigerian police have released singer, comedian, and content creator Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, on bail.

Darlington was arrested and detained following a complaint by fellow musician Damini Ogulu, also known as Burna Boy, who accused him of cyberstalking.

The controversial musician, known as Akpi, was released to his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, after meeting the bail conditions set by the police at the Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response Team’s office in the Guzape area of Abuja.

SaharaReporters learned on Tuesday that Speed Darlington was arrested last Friday.

Earlier on Tuesday, Adeyanju informed SaharaReporters that he had reviewed the petition submitted by afrobeat musician Burna Boy against Darlington.

Speed Darlington was arrested in Lagos, moved to various police units in the state, and then transferred to Abuja, where he was detained by the IRT team on cyberstalking charges.

Adeyanju stated that there was nothing in the petition to justify Darlington’s arrest.

“I have met Speed Darlington and he’s in good spirits, we are working to get him released on bail as soon as possible,” Adeyanju told SaharaReporters earlier on Tuesday.

A police Assistant Commissioner (ACP) investigating the case informed Adeyanju that while they could not provide him with a copy of the petition, they allowed him to read and understand its content.

Nigerian Police Detain Musician Speed Darlington Since Friday in Abuja After Petition by Burna Boy

Darlington’s mother, known as Queen, had previously claimed that Burna Boy and his team were behind her son’s disappearance.

In a video message, Queen recounted how Speed Darlington’s gateman told her that he had been taken away by Burna Boy and his crew.

In the video, Queen tearfully pleaded with Burna Boy to release her son, even going as far as kneeling to express her desperation.

Her plea came after Speed Darlington had been declared missing.

“Nigerians please come and help me, my son, Speed Darlington has been missing for over four days now, after he made a video about Burna Boy and Diddy.

“Burna Boy came to his house with his squad and police and they arrested Akpi. Please, Nigerians, Akpi is my only son. Please, Nigerians help me and beg Burna Boy to release my son,” she said.
