Anambra: Stop Contaminating Waters with Ritual Practices – Soludo Warns Native Doctors

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has strongly cautioned native doctors against polluting streams and rivers through ritual practices.

Speaking on Thursday in Awka, the state capital, while addressing members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Soludo emphasized the need to protect the state’s natural water bodies.

He urged residents to support the government’s ongoing efforts to reclaim and safeguard the state from criminal elements.

“Stop contaminating our rivers and streams with ritual practices in the name of ‘Odinani’ (tradition). Many people rely on that water for drinking, cooking, and other household needs.

“If you must perform rituals, use a container — like a bucket — fill it with water, and carry out your practices there.

“Do not pollute public water sources. Polluted water can make people sick, and we do not want that for our communities,” he said.

The ongoing crackdown on criminal native doctors in the state has sparked criticism from some quarters, with concerns that the arrests are an attack on traditional religious practices.

In response, the governor clarified that the operation is not aimed at genuine traditional worshipers, but at fraudulent native doctors who have been exploiting and deceiving the public.

Former Central Bank Governor Charles Soludo also voiced concern over the growing number of deceitful practitioners, accusing them of misleading young people with false promises of instant wealth.

Soludo urged the youth not to be swayed by such scams, emphasizing that no native doctor can make anyone a millionaire without genuine effort and hard work.
